There’s nothing cuter than adorning your potted plant with some little mushrooms. Learn how to make these clay mushroom plant pokes. They’re a fun project for most skill levels.

Supplies
These clay mushroom plant pokes are made with air dry clay. They can be painted or left as is. You can also use tools to create texture in the clay as well.
- Air dry clay (any brand will work, I used this one from Amazon).
- Paint (if you want to pain, I use acrylic).
- Small dish of water.
- 20 gauge craft wire (this is a good one from Amazon).
- Paint brushes & clay tools.
Steps
These are general steps, use them as inspiration to make these mushroom plant pokes exactly how YOU want them to look. My big tip is to create the mushroom from one piece of clay (as shown in the video below) instead of the cap and base being separate pieces.
- Cut the wire into 3″-4″ pieces.
- Work the clay a bit to make it easier to mold.
- Shape the clay into a mushroom cap and stem. (Use a wet fingertip as needed to smooth cracks.)
- Stick the wire up through the bottom middle of the stem until it just about touches the tip of the cap (but doesn’t go through).
- Let mushrooms dry overnight.
- Paint if desired. Let paint completely dry.
