I am really loving this plant hanger that my husband helped me make. We created this DIY Plant Hanger (with just one knot) from the old barrel sling knot. The barrel sling knot has been used for many years to hoist cargo onto ships. Cool huh? Instead of taking a photo at every move, we made a video (below) for you to watch!

You will only need a few supplies. You might even have them on hand! We used cotton macrame cord but you could use hemp or yarn. We used 12′ of cord for a 4″ pot. It sounds like a lot, but you want it to be able to hang from your ceiling at a good length.

Tips before starting

  1. Tie a knot at the end of your yarn to make one big loop.
  2. This plant hanger is just looping so you’ll need to leave the pot in the hanger or else the hanger unravels. I suggest putting a saucer under the pot while you create the hanger so you can water the plant inside the hanger.

I just love the simplicity of this plant hanger. When I shared the video on IGTV, people started sharing their versions with twine and different materials. It’s so fun to see what you all come up with! Be sure to tag me in your pics on IG.

    1. Very pleased to see the measurements for this, finally. Although this project is posted everywhere, this is first I’ve seen how long the cording for the size of the pot. Thank you also for reminding to consider the saucer for purpose of watering.
I’ve been planning to do this for my many baby plants grown over the winter.

  1. The bottom part keep slipping out when I make the final last step, done it several times over and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong lol but I'm determined to figure it out! :))) Any tips on this Please? Thanks:)
