Tillandsia are epiphytic flowering plants that do not require soil to grow. In their natural environment, they attach themselves, and live on other plants or trees.
Air plants can be displayed in so many different ways. They can be mounted to driftwood or cork board as a beautiful piece of living art. They can also be displayed in an open terrarium. You can make this fun DIY at home with just a few supplies.
LIGHT
Display air plants in an area with bright filtered light. Somewhere near a window is perfect! The air plants in my home are near my west facing window with a sheer curtain.
WATER
Soak air plants in a bowl of room temperature tap or rain water. Soak for 15-20 minutes. Remove the air plants from the water and let them dry on a towel. Be sure to let the air plants dry upside down to allow excess water to drip out of the plant. Let the plants dry completely before placing them back in the display. Water every 7-10, or as needed.
FERTILZER
Fertilizer can help your air plants to grow big and even flower. Find a fertilizer specifically for air plants or the Bromeliaceae family. I like these granules that you add to water. The key is to pick a fertilizer and stick with the same one throughout spring and summer. Use as directed.
Air plants are a fun way to bring a little green into your home without all the hassle of dirt and pots.
