These succulent planters are such a charming idea, Jennifer! I love the rustic look of the wood, and what a great way to repurpose a Christmas tree trunk. The step-by-step photos make the process seem really approachable, even for someone like me who's a bit of a novice when it comes to woodworking.

I'm definitely going to give this a try, but I might try using a forstner drill bit like one of the commenters suggested. It sounds like it would make the hollowing-out process a bit cleaner.

One question I have, though: do you have any recommendations for sealing the wood to protect it from moisture damage over time? I'm a little concerned about the wood rotting if it gets too wet, especially since I live in a humid climate. It's a very cute idea though, never would have thought to do this! Also saw your pin on the pinterest board, that's what brought me here! Repinned as well.

I drill drainage holes in the base, from the bottom. Otherwise the roots will just make their way to the rocks and suck up too much water. I, also, use a Forstner drill bit. It cuts out the wood as you drill so it's a one step process.
