Thank you so much for being here today!\u00a0 I am SO in LOVE with these DIY Succulent Planters.\u00a0 I mean, aren’t they beautiful?!\u00a0 The best part is they cost\u00a0zip to make\u00a0and are fairly easy.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I saved our Christmas Tree\u00a0trunk because I thought I would make wood round ornaments for next year.\u00a0 It’s been kicking around the house for months and frankly, I was getting sick of tripping over it.\u00a0 I needed to do something else with it.\u00a0 I had a bunch of succulents that I had just planted and had a few left over with no home.\u00a0 I remembered seeing a picture where someone had planted a bunch of succulents outside in an old tree stump.\u00a0 I loved it, and thought I could do something similar but for inside.\u00a0 Follow the tutorial below to make these beauties!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You’ll need:<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Old tree trunk or thick branch (I used our noble fir Christmas tree trunk).<\/p>\n

-Saw (we used a hand saw).<\/p>\n

-Drill<\/p>\n

-A hole saw attachment for drill (we used 1.5 inch).<\/p>\n

-A small drill bit<\/p>\n

-Marker or pen.<\/p>\n

For planting:<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Small rocks or Pebbles<\/p>\n

-Succulent\/Cactus soil (well draining soil).<\/p>\n

-Succulents<\/p>\n

Let’s get started!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"These<\/p>\n

\"These1.\u00a0 First gather your tools and your tree trunk.\u00a0 Mine was big enough to make 2 (or more) so I marked the spots where we needed to cut.\u00a0 I say “we” because my husband had to help me.\u00a0 Ha!<\/p>\n

\"These\"These2.\u00a0 Now safely saw your trunk.<\/p>\n

\"These3.\u00a0 With your whole saw attachment drill the circle shape into your wood piece.\u00a0 We went down as far as the attachment would let us go.<\/p>\n

\"These4.\u00a0 Now you’ll have something that looks like this (above picture on left).\u00a0 Use your regular small drill\u00a0bit to chisel out the wood (above picture on right).<\/p>\n

\"These<\/p>\n

\"These<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Keep chiseling until you reach desired depth.\u00a0 Mine goes down about 2″ or so.<\/p>\n

\"These<\/p>\n

\"These<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Now for planting!\u00a0 Fill a\u00a0thin layer\u00a0of pebbles.\u00a0 And then \u00a0a thin layer of succulent soil.<\/p>\n

\"These7.\u00a0 Place your succulent in the whole and fill the rest with soil.\u00a0 Brush off excess dirt and you’re done!\u00a0 Don’t water!\u00a0 Read below.<\/p>\n

\"TheseI’m not a succulent professional but I’ve read some great tips on planting that I’ll share with you.\u00a0 Succulents need well draining soil.\u00a0 If you are planting them in a container with no drainage hole, you will need to use rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the container.\u00a0 Their roots can’t sit in water! \u00a0Water your succulent in the current container about 2-3 days prior to transferring.\u00a0 Once you’ve transplanted your succulent, it’s best to wait 1-2 weeks to water.\u00a0 I know it seems weird but they will need to get used to their new home before being watered.<\/p>\n
