The day after Thanksgiving is probably my favorite day.\u00a0 It’s the day\u00a0we get our Christmas tree.\u00a0 It’s been a tradition since the year before we got married.\u00a0 I honestly think it ranks up there with my wedding day and the birth of our children.\u00a0 Is that weird of me?\u00a0 I like going out as a family, being outside, surrounded by beautiful trees.\u00a0 We’ve gone to the same place every year since we started this tradition.\u00a0\u00a0Vandermost tree farm is off of Scholls Ferry rd. (for you local folks).\u00a0 They don’t have a website but if you look it up,\u00a0you’ll find them.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0They have a huge selection of noble firs, and it’s U-Cut any tree $25.\u00a0 They also sell beautifully made wreaths and\u00a0 bags of mistletoe.<\/p>\n

Every year we do something a little different with our tree.\u00a0 This year I let my good friend Amanda at Burlap and Babies <\/a>borrow all of my purple ornaments for her Silver and Purple Glam Christmas Tree<\/a>.\u00a0 That left me with a less colorful option of mostly neutrals, so I went with it!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The first thing I did was plug the lights in to make sure they worked.\u00a0 And wouldn’t you know, only\u00a0two out of the five strands worked.\u00a0 I really didn’t want to buy new ones so I made it work.\u00a0 Now, I know we won’t all agree but, I really believe trees should\u00a0have white lights.\u00a0 Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some very beautiful trees with colored lights, but there’s just something extra magical about white lights on a tree.\u00a0 So, I put my two strands of small white lights on and I added a set of bigger white lights.\u00a0 The bigger white lights add some interest plus, I spray painted the cord gold.<\/p>\n

I added a sort of burlap-ish ribbon with white polka dots.\u00a0 I had a really hard time deciding between this and a plaid ribbon.\u00a0 I’m really into plaid this year and thought they would match my Plaid Napkin Pillows<\/a>\u00a0but in the end, went with the polka dot.\u00a0 The next thing I did was added gold glitter sticks to the branches.\u00a0 I just sort of took a small bundle and randomly stuck them in to the tree.<\/p>\n

After putting all the ornaments on the tree, I still felt like it needed more.\u00a0 I couldn’t figure it out until I saw\u00a0the pom pom wreath<\/a> hanging above my mantle.\u00a0 I quickly got to pom pom making.\u00a0 My husband cringes every time I start making pom poms.\u00a0 They’re so messy and the trimmings stick to everything!\u00a0 But they’re awesome and I use them for everything I possibly can.\u00a0 I tied them to the tops of the branches and it turned out so cute.\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

I can’t even remember what I used for a tree skirt last year, so this year I had to do something new.\u00a0 I had two yards of faux fur fabric that I got to\u00a0DIY an Anthropologie duvet cover.\u00a0 It didn’t work very well for that, Ha!\u00a0 But, it was perfect for this.\u00a0 I \u00a0just wrapped it around the base of the tree and viola!\u00a0 Super simple and it looks great.\u00a0 It looks like snow fell under my tree!<\/p>\n

Can we just talk about something for a minute?\u00a0 Of course I’m listening to Christmas music right now and I really think that Mariah Carey is probably living the rest of her life comfortably on royalties from “All I want for Christmas is you”.\u00a0 I mean, this song is genius!\u00a0 I grew out of Mariah Carey years ago but every time I hear this song, I can’t help but sing AND dance!\u00a0 Now my youngest bounces on his chubby little legs to it.\u00a0 It’s Amazing!<\/em><\/p>\n

\"My<\/a><\/p>\n

One thing about noble firs is the random placement of branches.\u00a0 Sometimes you have large empty spaces that need to be filled.\u00a0 Last year I got some huge ball ornaments from Home Depot.\u00a0 They were super bright and sparkly.\u00a0 I didn’t like the color so I spray painted them with rose gold spray paint.\u00a0 I stuck them inside the tree where I had gaps and they beautifully filled the holes.<\/p>\n

\"My<\/a><\/p>\n

I really love this tree!\u00a0 It has so much character.\u00a0 My one year old hasn’t knocked it over yet, so that’s a plus!\u00a0 What fun things did you do to your tree this year?\u00a0 Do you have a favorite ornament that you try to highlight?\u00a0 My favorites are the clear jellyfish, the Driftwood Nativity from World Market<\/a>, and the angel wings.\u00a0 I also hung my DIY Stick Nativity Ornament<\/a> on the tree.\u00a0 It goes perfect with my neutral theme.\u00a0 My pickle<\/a> is hiding in there somewhere too!\u00a0 Can you find it?!<\/p>\n
