Knowing how to care for your new plant is the first step! Plant care tips are very easily accessible these days. Search your plant and look for suggested light requirements, water needs, and other environmental suggestions (i.e humidity). Even from the most reputable plant shops, greenhouses, and retailers, bugs and disease can happen. It’s important to keep your new plant away from the other plants for a 1-2 week period. During that time, check daily for bugs like scale, spider mites, fungus gnats, mealy bugs, and any critters that could infest your other houseplants. Use a systemic insect control in the soil as a preventative.<\/p>\n

\"\"Find the right forever home.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once you’ve quarantined, it’s time to\u00a0find your plants forever home. Plants that require\u00a0brighter light will need to be placed closer to the window and plants that can tolerate lower light levels can be placed further away. Be aware of vents and doors, as many plants really dislike drafts.<\/p>\n

I really wanted a few new plants to go with my new dining room furniture.\u00a0<\/span>The Plant Shop<\/a>\u00a0at 1-800-Flowers.com currently offers more than 130 plants, including houseplants, blooming plants, succulents, bonsai, bamboo\u00a0<\/span>and more. It was hard to decide but knowing\u00a0the spots I wanted to fill, I chose a\u00a0Dieffenbachia<\/a>\u00a0(Dumb Cane), a\u00a0Sansevieria<\/a>\u00a0(Snake Plant), and a\u00a0Ravenea rivularis<\/a>\u00a0(Majesty Palm).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first thing I did was my RESEARCH! I know a lot about Sansevieria but I’ve never owned a Dieffenbachia or a\u00a0Ravenea rivularis before. Luckily I did my research because I didn’t realize the Ravenea rivularis needed so much light!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0second thing I did was place the\u00a0new plants in an area away from all the other plants. Over a weeks time, I checked daily for bugs. All three plants arrived beautiful with not one pest in sight! It was time to find their forever home.<\/p>\n

For now, I’m loving the plants placed around my dining room like this. Even my husband asked if he could take one of the plants to his office….ummm..no! LOL!<\/p>\n
