Hi guys!\u00a0 Thanks for being here today!\u00a0 Today is my 4 month blogiversary!\u00a0 Although, it feels like a lot longer than that.\u00a0 I’m having so much fun but it’s a lot of information.\u00a0 I mean, how can you ever know everything there is to know about blogging?!\u00a0 AHHH!\u00a0 Luckily I have my very own blogging dictionary, Amanda at A Crafted Passion<\/a>.\u00a0 She’s amazing!\u00a0 I’m sure I annoy the crap out of her with all my questions but I retain information a lot better when I hear it from someone rather than reading.\u00a0 Plus, I figure I’ll pay her back in coffee, jokes, and friendship?!<\/p>\n

Last week on Instagram<\/a> I posted this fabric that I got at the beach and asked my 86 followers (what?!\u00a0 I’m new) what I should do with it?\u00a0 One of my friends, Tara (click here to read her hilarious, risky, no shame take on life)<\/a> suggested place mats and I really wanted to but I didn’t have enough fabric.\u00a0 Then Amber said “Something you would see often, too cute to be tucked away”.\u00a0 So, I present to you, “The Plant Hammock”.\u00a0 My friend Mary came up with that name.\u00a0 Thanks Mary!\u00a0 This DIY Plant Hanger is great because you can choose\u00a0 your own fabric so it’s super customizable to your style!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My love of plants started about 20 years ago.\u00a0 I blame it on Billy.\u00a0 I blame a lot of things in my life on Billy.\u00a0 But honestly, I am who I am (mostly) because of her so it’s mostly GOOD blame.\u00a0 When we lived together we were young and had no money.\u00a0 We would put our tips together, walk to Fred Meyer, and buy taquitos and plants.\u00a0 Haha!\u00a0 One day we saved up our tips, took the bus downtown and got matching tattoos.\u00a0 I could have a whole separate blog for Erin+Billy stories but I don’t think the world is ready for that yet.<\/p>\n

If you’re still reading, thank you!\u00a0 I go off sometimes and it doesn’t always make sense.\u00a0 I’m crafty but I will never claim to be a writer.\u00a0 Back to the subject…Let’s get started on this DIY Plant Hanger.\u00a0 I have to admit, I didn’t fully think it through before I started so it took me a bit longer but if you follow the directions and have very basic sewing skills, you should be able to pull this off in about 30 minutes.\u00a0 And, of course I didn’t cut buttons off a perfectly good jacket for this project.\u00a0 Who would do that?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You’ll need:<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Jute<\/p>\n

-Fabric (1\/2 yard should be plenty)<\/p>\n

-Plant in a pot<\/p>\n

-Thread\/Needle<\/p>\n

-Sewing Machine<\/p>\n

-Scissors<\/p>\n

-Four buttons (medium to large is best)<\/p>\n

-Iron<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a0Iron your fabric and lay it right side down on your table.<\/li>\n
  2. Place the pot* you’re using near the corner of your fabric.\u00a0 Lift the corner of the fabric up over the pot.\u00a0 You want the corner to hit about 1″-2″ above the pot.\u00a0 Now do it to the opposite corner.\u00a0 This should determine your square size.\u00a0 It’s not an exact science but it works!\u00a0 See above photos.<\/li>\n
  3. Cut your square and then trace it on your fabric to make an additional square.\u00a0 Two squares total.<\/li>\n
  4. Place your squares right sides together and sew aprox. 1\/4″ seam around leaving about a 3″ opening.<\/li>\n
  5. Use the opening to pull the fabric right side out.<\/li>\n
  6. Flatten fabric with your hands and fold the raw edge around the hole down towards the inside.\u00a0 See above photos.<\/li>\n
  7. Iron flat.<\/li>\n
  8. Take your buttons and sew one on each corner of your square.\u00a0 Sew them on really well.\u00a0 These will hold the weight of your pot.\u00a0 See above photos.<\/li>\n
  9. Take your jute and decide how long you want your hanger to hang.\u00a0 You’ll cut 4 pieces. Each one will be double the length you want your hanger to hang.<\/li>\n
  10. Simply loop one piece around each button and gather all the jute together at the top.\u00a0 See above photos.<\/li>\n
  11. Tie a loop at the top and you’re done!\u00a0 See above photos.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    *Be careful to use a pot that isn’t too heavy<\/p>\n

    I love the way this turned out.\u00a0 I can’t wait to make a few more.\u00a0 Hanging plants work a lot better around here because the baby is constantly pulling on leaves.\u00a0 As if he doesn’t eat enough already, I find him taking bites out of my plants.\u00a0 Come on!\u00a0 If you want a salad just ask!<\/p>\n
