I've definitely been guilty of just watering on a schedule without actually checking the soil, and my poor plants have suffered for it. The reminder about using pots with drainage holes is so important, too. I learned that lesson the hard way when I first started out – let's just say a few roots weren't too happy about their soggy situation.
I'm also curious about your thoughts on self-watering spikes or globes. Have you ever used those? I'm always a bit skeptical about whether they actually deliver the right amount of water.
