This is a great, practical guide to shipping plant cuttings! I really appreciate the emphasis on using the quickest shipping method possible and properly packaging the cuttings to keep the roots wet and foliage dry. The flat rate box recommendation is spot-on; those things are a lifesaver for shipping!

I'm curious about a few things that came up in the other comments, though. It seems like a lot of people are struggling to find clear information on state-specific restrictions, especially for California. Perhaps adding a section with links to official state agriculture websites or even just some examples of plants that are commonly restricted could be a valuable addition.

Also, it's interesting that you advise against using plastic, yet the photo shows the roots wrapped in a plastic bag. Could you elaborate on that a bit more? Maybe suggest some eco-friendly alternatives for wrapping the roots, like biodegradable bags or even just layering a few extra layers of damp paper towels, for those of us trying to reduce our plastic consumption?

Finally, for those shipping cuttings without roots, do you recommend including a small rooting hormone powder or gel? And what's your take on using those heat packs or cold packs during extreme weather to regulate the temperature inside the box?

Thanks again for all the helpful advice! This is a great starting point for anyone looking to share their plant babies with others.

Hello, you state
"I also don’t suggest using plastic of any kind."
To ship christmas cactus cutting, yet in the picture it clearly had the cutting wrapped in paper and put into a little plastic bag.
You are contradicting what you say with the picture.
You might want to correct that.
That being said, I'm wondering if you can send a cutting in a padded envelope, if it is wrapped up well and the envelope clearly marked FRAGILE & DO NOT BEND?
